How is Paperpal's Chat PDF different from other tools like SciSpace? What AI models do you use?

Both SciSpace and Paperpal are great tools designed with academic use-cases in mind. While we don’t have a comparison of the quality of responses from SciSpace’s Chat PDF solution as compared to Paperpal’s, here are the same differences that we spot:

SciSpace is primarily a literature search tool with a ChatPDF solution to extract insights from literature and some writing capabilities. Paperpal on the other hand is first and foremost an advanced academic writing tool.

  • Paperpal offers best-in class academic editing
  • AI writing features are more comprehensive with expert prompts fine tuning outputs
  • Paperpal offers more comprehensive support in writing with plagiarism checks and journal submission-check support
  • You can access Paperpal’s assistance not just on Web but also MS Word, Overleaf and Google Docs, where most writing happens!

Compared to general Chat PDF tools like Chat with PDF, PDF.ai, etc., Paperpal stands out as being built for the academic use case with key features like:

  • Using the AI to generate accurate responses beyond a mere Q&A
  • Helping you form views and opinions based on the information available in the paper and the query asked
  • Generating a comprehensive academic summary
  • Finding related literature
  • Saving snippets of text with the paper citation
